This painting was created as a response to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. There are moments in life when who we are, what we feel, and what we desire don’t line up in ways that make sense not to others, and sometimes not even to ourselves. This painting doesn’t try to recreate a scene from the book, but rather expresses the emotional weight it left on me. The confusion, the beauty, the ache. It’s a portrait of contradictions of wanting more than one thing at once, and of not having the words to explain why.
